Naigambo finishes 2nd in first Gauteng Marathon

WINDHOEK – Namibia’s seasoned long-distance runner Beata Naigambo finished in complimentary 2nd place at the inaugural Gauteng Marathon on Sunday.
Naigambo clocked a time of two hours, 43 minutes and 13 seconds (2:43:13). The race was however won by Kenya’s Eunice Muchiri after clocking an impressive time of 2:43:08, while his compatriot Pamela Kipchoge took 3rd place in a time of 2:43:38.
Naigambo, 32, represented Namibia at the 2012 London Olympic Games women’s marathon in which she fared poorly and managed to finish 38th overall in a time of 2:31:16. Her personal best is 2:29:20
A Kenyan, Timothy Kibet Chelimo, also won the men’s race. Both winners in the men and women’s categories pocketed a hefty N$250 000 each.
