WINDHOEK – President Hifikepunye Pohamba has again reiterated his wish that institutions rather donate money to charity instead of spending it on advertised birthday wishes for him.
The Office of the President issued a statement to announce the establishment of the charity fund to which institutions and individuals can donate money.
“[The president] would rather have funds channeled to charity causes instead of spending money on newspaper adverts, wishing him well on his birthday,” reads the statement.
The fund is known as the ‘President’s Fund’.
State House says that the Office of the President has been inundated with requests from both the corporate world and individuals for information on where to make such contributions. “His Excellency the President will donate funds so received, to charity organisations of his choice, selected from among the 13 regions of the country,” the statement says.
Senior special assistant to the president, Christine //Hoëbes told New Era that the funds donated will be distributed to charity organisations dealing with orphans and vulnerable children in Namibia.
//Hoëbes said the President’s Fund is already receiving huge support from both individuals and the corporate world.
She did not divulge which companies or organisations have made donations to date or the amount of money donated. //Hoëbes said the president would in due course decide on when and how to distribute the donated funds.
The president’s charity fund account is with First National Bank – Cheque Account No. 62246221642, Branch No: 2080272
