WINDHOEK – With an estimated 6000 Grade 10 and 12 learners aided through the Spring School initiative, many more in the town of Tsumeb will get their chance this school holiday.
The initiative is a joint venture between the Michelle McClean Children Trust (MMCT) and Bank Windhoek and will be offering the 12th Spring School for Grades 10s and 12s in a range of extra classes scheduled at the Etosha Secondary School in Tsumeb from August 27 – 31.
“In our Michelle McLean Children Trust vision, we state that: We remain committed to the youth of Namibia, improving their quality of life, through education and thereby encouraging them to recognise opportunities, and to unlock their limitless potential by realising their dreams and thereby inspiring them to be the positive change in the world therefore, we wanted to help those who seemed to be extremely negative about their Grade 10 & 12 IGCSE & HIGCSE exams at the end of the year,” said MMCT Secretary Michelle Visser.
She explained that in previous years the Spring School was held in Windhoek and it has been decided this year to change the location because the Khomas Region, after the North, received the second highest number of entries from learners for the spring school. This year it will be in Tsumeb, Rundu & Katima Mulilo. She said this initiative has been able to aid learners, and cited a case where a volunteer for the Help2Read initiative is helping other young children and learners with their reading. “One of the teachers, who will be teaching this year, was also in the Michelle McLean Children Trust Spring School way back.
So not only do we try to help learners with their education but we give back to the community and give these learners opportunities to take them further in life and to improve their lives and lifestyle, giving them opportunities in life for work, and a better future for themselves. As education is a large stepping stone to any other project that you have to go through in life,” she said.
She added that learners who will be attending this year’s Spring School can look forward to amazing teachers, with the best qualifications. Due to a limited number of space to ensure optimal attention of each learner, there will be a maximum of 25 learners in each class. The subjects offered range from Ordinary, Core, Extended and Higher level subjects.
