WINDHOEK – Cymot Sport Klub Windhoek (SKW) edged ahead of old foes Ramblers to clinch the inaugural edition of the annual four-team NFA Under-15 Football League.
Katutura Youth Academy triumphed in the NFA Under-15 B division ahead of Kattsville, Windhoek United, Kaizen FA and Mario Academy – in that order.
In the decisive match of the mini league, Imawida came head to head with old foes Ramblers at the NFA Technical Centre, but the young Germans proved too hot to handle for their clearly out of sorts rivals – dispatching the Tunchell Street Boys 4-0 to all but seal the championship title with 14 points.
Imawida’s hot striker Tangeni Ndeitunga netted a brace with Daniel Hassenpflug and George Hummel adding one goal apiece.
Tura Magic left it a bit late as they saw off Nick Eleven by 3-1 to claim the bronze medal with a paltry 5 points, leaving Nick Eleven to pick up the pieces with the wooden spoon in the four-team mini league.
Action also reached a climax in the Under-15 B league. Katutura-based Youth Academy finished atop followed by Katsville and Windhoek United – in that order – while Kaizen FA and Mario Academy finished 4th and 5th respectively.
The NFA launched the Pilot Youth Leagues Project in April earlier this year with the primary objective of ensuring that structures are in place to streamline youth football and nurture its development.
Youth football was left entirely in the hands of schools in the past, but about three years ago, the introduction of the NFA Youth Development project, completely changed the landscape of youth football in the country.
