

WINDHOEK- The Namibia Youth Book Fair 2012 is inviting aspiring comic book artists to a ten-day comic book / storyboard creation workshop in September 2012.
Participants will have the unique opportunity to have their two-page comic published in what is probably the first Namibian comic book created specifically for children.
The workshop is sponsored by the Ministry of Youth, National Service, Sport and Culture and was initiated by the stakeholders of the Namibia Youth Book Fair 2012, namely the Franco-Namibian Cultural Centre and Goethe Centre Windhoek in collaboration with Yambeka Children Media.
The book fair is taking place from 26 to 29 October 2012 in Windhoek.
All aspiring comic book artists and visual artists are invited to participate.
Established artists as well as students or scholars are welcome to apply, while the minimum age for applicants is 16 years.
Applicants should develop a story for a comic of two A4 pages, targeted at children in the age group of 8 to 12 years. Any comic book medium is admissible: drawing, photography or even collage.
Applicants should hand in a written story of not more than two pages plus some visual material (at least 5 pictures) linked to their proposal.
The deadline for applications is Friday, 31st August, 17h00. Applications must be handed in at the FNCC reception or mailed to culturalofficer@fncc.org.na.
No late applications will be accepted.
The workshop will be facilitated by renown Namibian artist Erik Schnack in collaboration with writer and film maker Oshosheni Hiveluah.
The seminar will take place in Windhoek from Monday, September 10 to Friday September 21 during week days in daily afternoon sessions from two O’clock to five O’clock ( (14h00-17h00).
Workshop participants are expected to fully attend every session and be prepared for daily homework.
They are also expected to deliver a print-ready two-page comic at the end of the workshop to be published in a comic book for children to be launched at the Namibia Youth Book Fair in October.
Artworks will be displayed in an exhibition at the FNCC during the book fair.
