WINDHOEK - The All Nations Christian Church is to host its first Skateboarding and BMXing competition on Saturday this week at the church’s own Skate Park and potential entrants should be between the ages of 6 and 18 and should register online at vertigoskate.org.
The entrance fee is N$50 per person, payable online or in person at the compulsory qualifying round on Friday, 03 August starting at 14h00.
Some of the sponsors of this event include Sprite, Radio Kosmos, Bushwhackers, Wimpy and Pupkewitz Megabuild. The sponsors have put up great prizes for the top three performers in each category, including custom skateboards, a multi-media speaker system, as well as gift vouchers and cash prizes.
Radio Kosmos will broadcast the event live from the competition grounds throughout the day, while the NBC cameras will also capture the action on film for a delayed broadcast. The gates open at 09h00 on Saturday morning with numerous stalls and activities available.
In 2010, work begun on a skate park on the All Nations Christian Church property as an outreach to thrill searching young people around the city of Windhoek. The park now boasts the largest ramp in Namibia (2 metres high by 10 metres long by 5 metres wide), as well as other ramps and ‘street skating’ style obstacles and props. The park is frequented by youth in the area looking for a place to better their skill in this extreme sport.
