RUNDU - “Operation Meerkat” conducted by the Police ended on a positive note with the seizure of various items worth over N$200 000 at Rundu in the Kavango Region, during July 24 - 25.
Various items such as cigarettes, alcohol, drugs, sweets and biscuits were confiscated from several businesses around the town of Rundu. Detective Inspector Chrispin Mubebo told New Era that several shebeens lost alcohol worth thousands for either operating without a liquor license or operating with expired liquor licenses.
“I am urging the business community to stick to the sale of legal commodities to avoid making a loss when police confiscate the illegal items. Although the operation has ended, the Namibian Police will continue with its law enforcement activities,” he said.
Mubebo said most of the confiscated items were smuggled into the country from Angola, Zambia and South Africa. “I am urging the community to continue assisting the police in order to fight crime,” said the Inspector. All the items seized were taken to a Rundu dumping site to be destroyed.
