WINDHOEK - Telecom Namibia last Wednesday unveiled its 20th anniversary theme and logo depicting two sets of commemorative postage stamps produced in collaboration with its sister company, Nampost.
The theme, “Cele-brating 20 years of transformation, growth and success” will kick off with a gala event next week Thursday in Windhoek at a local hotel where a select audience, including the Minister of Information Communication Technology, Joël Kaapanda, directors, founder members and sponsors will grace the occasion.
The celebrations will continue to run on various days with different activities until September 2.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, acting board chairman Roger Gertze said he was sure the two sets of stamps would go a long way in telling a good story about the success of the two companies over the two decades of their incorporation by an Act of Parliament.
He said the stamps depict a joint historical milestone and it is a wonderful tribute to both Telecom and Nampost and a fitting recognition of the immense contributions the two companies have made.
The set of two postage stamps cost N$2,90 each and will be available in the near future at all Nampost branches countrywide.
“The first stamp displays a very small aperture terminal (VSAT) dish, a telecommunications device used to send and receive microwave signals via satellite. It is a parabolic shaped antenna used for data transmission and broadcasting.
“The second stamp displays a fibre optic cable as a way to both depict the thousands of kilometres of fibre optic cable Telecom Namibia has deployed throughout the country to provide state-of-the-art services. The first undersea cable is destined to change and redefine the use of Internet in Namibia,” he said.
Gertze said Namibians should be proud of the key milestones as highlighted by the set of stamps.
The acting board chairman praised all Telecom staff for working hard and ensuring that the vision of the company is sustained since its inception and urged them to continue to work hard to maintain the company’s position as a leader in the industry.
