WINDHOEK - Orange Babies Namibia has launched an ingenious initiative in which ordinary Namibians are asked to put aside a few dollars in support of vulnerable children and mothers affected by HIV.

Although fundraising initiatives ordinarily look at the corporate world, Orange Babies says every Namibian can contribute the few cents they have.

Under the initiative households are asked to host a dinner where guests bring along donations instead of the usual dinner gifts, flowers and wines.

The initiative will run throughout August.

The Dutch charity Orange Babies has been channelling thousands of Namibian dollars into local projects since 2006.

It funds the care of HIV-positive mothers and their children, as well as orphans and vulnerable children.
