WINDHOEK - First National Bank (FNB) Namibia has appointed Johan du Plessis as the new Head of Risk and Willem van der Merwe as the Branch Manager of FNB Insurance Brokers at Walvis Bay.
Windhoek-born Du Plessis completed high school in 1991 and went on to study at the University of Stellenbosch. He completed his accounting articles and joined Boland Bank in 1999 as the Head of Internal Audit.
He also worked for the Nedbank Group in a variety of senior positions throughout his career.
“Based on recent newspaper articles in which FNB Namibia was rated tops in the Namibian Banking Review survey of 2012, my challenge is to build on the success with a view to creating a truly world-class financial institution in terms of risk management. I’m grateful for the opportunity to join the FNB Namibia team.
“I am highly impressed with the commitment of all the staff that I meet and it is no surprise to me that FNB has a 33 percent market share in Namibia. I look forward to making a positive contribution to the Group and to do my bit in growing our market share and building a bank that is truly world class,” said Du Plessis following his appointment.
Willem van der Merwe started his insurance career in 1997 at FGI Insurance in Windhoek and was soon lured to the brokerage industry.
“My challenge at FNB Namibia includes getting my branch to work in cohesion, the retention of business, attaining new business and satisfying all our customers,” said Van der Merwe.
