TSANDI - The Namibian Basketball Federation (NBF) remains on track with its efforts to develop youth basketball in the regions.
The federation held a mini-basketball promotion tour to the north, which included clinics and attracted  altogether 100 children, teachers and coaches, last weekend.

First stop was the Francis Galton Primary School in Tsumeb (Oshikoto Region), followed by Tsandi Primary School (Omusati Region) and the Ongwediva Leopards Basketball Club (Oshana Region).

The main aim was to encourage the regions to involve more children in basketball and to support teachers and coaches who have already started with mini-basketball activities.

Friendly games were played in order to motivate the children and to expose them to competitive basketball.
Twenty girls and boys of the Basketball Artists School (BAS) in the Katutura residential area in the capital took part in the activities and acted as role models for the other children by teaching them basics like dribbling, passing, shooting, defence and offence.

NBF expert Frank Albin, assisted by BAS volunteers and the new NBF Development Officer Francina Shilongo, conducted the clinics.
Shilongo, a sports officer in Tsumeb, was seconded to the NBF by the line ministry in order to continue the hugely popular and successful youth basketball programme.

The mini-basketball promotion tour was also made possible through the Directorate of Sport and supported by the German government.
