WINDHOEK- The popular Afrikaans folk music group, Penkoppe, will be performing in Namibia to raise awareness and funds for young cancer sufferers on July 6.

Three Grade 12 learners from Windhoek Afrikaans Privaatskool, Michelle van der Merwe, Danielle Kellermann and Yvette Mouton have been creating awareness about cancer and raising funds for Children with Cancer in Namibia (CHICA).

The girls have organised a hair “sprayathon” that will take place today all over Windhoek, at all participating schools in Outjo, Stampriet, Walvis Bay and Swakopmund to further their awareness campaign and fundraising. They have been doing exceptional work over the last year for young cancer sufferers, including an excursion for young Chica members to participate in go-kart races.

“We want to make a difference in the lives of these children and I believe we will succeed in doing so. Each and every child should be reminded to be grateful for their good health, which can change your life, or take it away, in the blink of an eye!” says Michelle.

IOL was delighted to come on board as the main sponsor of the event to contribute to the good course of supporting children with cancer in Namibia.  “The pioneers of this great initiative are three young girls that are serious about supporting children with cancer.

Part of their dream was to organise an event of substance to support and contribute significantly towards children that suffer from cancer. We are honored to be part of a project that can improve the quality of life of children that suffer from cancer,” said Glenda Strauss, IOL Brand Manager.
