WINDHOEK – Participants in the recently ended Artbeat, a dynamic and creative youth performing arts skills programme, offers a public production at the National Theatre of Namibia (NTN) on Friday night.
The production follows a four-week long training and skills development programme in drama, dance, poetry and music for youths between 13 and 18 years during the May holidays. The NTN again hosted 40 learners from various Windhoek High Schools during the holidays. The programme, which has become an annual event, aims to amongst other things, introduce children to theatre and its benefits as an extended communication and education resource; to create a platform where children can meet and share in their cultural diversity; to create a space where young people can confront the past, engage with the present and map the future; and to keep children away from anti-social and harmful influences during the school holidays.
Besides Windhoek the production will also be touring the coast where it would be staged in Swakopmund in June 08 at the Secondary School Swakopmund (SSS) at two o’clock in the afternoon(14:00) and in Walvis Bay in June 09 at the Duneside High School at two o’clock in the afternoon (14:00) and then six o’clock (18:00). The shows at the coast have been sponsored by Namport. Tickets for this production will be N$50 (adults), N$25 (pensioners) and N$20 (children).
