OMARURU - The first race in the Bank Windhoek Namibia Motorsport Federation Enduro Championship Series 2010 took place recently on the Farm Kanona of the Waldschmidt family.
The farm is situated halfway between Karibib and Omaruru. Altogether 76 riders participated in the race, covering more than 150-kilometers over difficult terrain, set in a beautiful landscape. These endurance races are being organized by the Enduro Working Group of the Windhoek Motor Club (WMC), who worked out a new layout for the track, different to the one used last year. The starting sequence of the competitors was based on a draw. The day was sponsored by Bank Windhoek and Penny Pinchers/Timber City. World-renowned Ingo Waldschmidt (KTM), who represented Namibia in the Dakar Rally 2008, won the Open Class with Heiko Hennes (Honda) in second place and Ronnie Adams (Kawasaki) in third place. The 200 cc Class was won by Kai Hennes (Honda), followed by Andreas Brendel (KTM) and Jörn Greiter (KTM). André Basson (Honda) came first in the National Quad Class trailed by Jaco Snyman (Honda) 2nd and Bart Steyl adrift in 3rd place. In the Ladies Quad Class, Honda riders Maike Bochert emerged victorious with Anneke Steenkamp finishing 2nd. Francois Steenkamp won the Support Bikes with Rodney Davies ending second and Wayne Sehablinsky third. The Support Quad Class was won by Rudolf Friederich, followed by Edwin Reed and Kevin Taglerferri in second and third respectively. "Bank Windhoek is proud to have been part of this well-organised and successful event with a record-breaking number of spectators and riders possible," said Riaan van Rooyen, head: corporate communication and social investment. The next race in the Bank Windhoek NMFS Enduro Championship Series will take place on the 3rd of April 2010 on Farm Monte Christo, situated just north of Windhoek, followed by another race on the 26th of June 2010 in the Witvlei district. The Bank Windhoek Enduro Championship series comprises seven races taking place from March to October in different regions of Namibia. "Enduro enthusiasts are invited to support these exciting and action packed races", said Van Rooyen. The Enduro Working Group of the Windhoek Motor Club can be reached on 081 149 0053. Back to Top |
