WINDHOEK - leo NFA Cup defending champions FNB Orlando Pirates could make an early exit from the lucrative nationwide competition.
The Ghosts were drawn against the in-form Civics when the last 16 teams went into the hat at Soccer House yesterday. The troubled Katutura-based club scraped to an unconvincing 1-Nil win over division one campaigners Golden Bees in Otjiwarongo last weekend, to set up a date with the free scoring Civilians. The remaining premier league teams all heaved a huge sigh of relief after they were drawn against relatively weak opposition from the lower divisions, apart from the low-key all premier league match between Black Africa and first division bound United Stars. However, shocking results in knock-out competitions are a common phenomena in the very same competition with both Oshakati City and Hotspurs the first casualties after the two struggling premier league teams were eliminated from the tournament by lower division opponents. After missing out on the coveted league title following a slow start - Civics will be out to prove that they have lost none of their usual nostalgia when they confront the Ghosts in the peak of their last 16 matches. Another intriguing encounter should be the tie between the exciting second division campaigners Unam Ogongo, conquerors of Oshakati City and Oshikandela Ramblers. Following their victory against Blue Waters last weekend, Black Africa are favourites to reach the quarterfinals at the expense of fellow premiership campaigners United Stars while African Stars should have little trouble in seeing off their second division opponents Young Rangers. Chief Santos are pitted against Mighty Gunners and Cymot Sport Klub Windhoek (SKW) have a date with African Lions from the Otjozondjupa second division. Eleven Warriors confront giant killing Try Again in what promises to be an entertaining match. Congo Hindjou's fired-up Eleven Arrows will be out to atone for their early season lukewarm showing in the league when the coastal outfit come up against second division team Spoilers from the Garden Town to complete the line-up for the last 16. The matches will be played on the weekend of April 09 - 10, 2010 at yet to be confirmed venues in Windhoek, Otjiwarongo and Walvis Bay while Tsumeb has been mooted as an alternative venue. - leo NFA Cup 2010 last 16 Civics vs FNB Orlando Pirates Black Africa vs United Stars Unam Ogongo vs Oshikandela Ramblers Eleven Warriors vs Try Again African Lions vs Cymot SKW Chief Santos vs Mighty Gunners African Stars vs Young Rangers Eleven Arrows vs Spoilers Back to Top |
