WINDHOEK – Brave Warriors’ shrewd mentor Tom Saintfiet kept faith with the tried and tested when he announced his 18-member squad for Namibia’s upcoming match against the Seychelles.
Namibia opens her assault in the second edition of the newly introduced annual Chan African Nations Championships against the tiny Indian island nation at Mahe Island, Seychelles on Saturday. Following the team’s good showing against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana in an international friendly in Durban last week – the Namibians will be out to register a comprehensive win over the islanders and take a healthy lead into the second leg in Windhoek a fortnight later. The squad is a mixture of youth and experienced players and boasts ten survivors from the team that did duty against South Africa last week. Impressive African Stars holding midfielder Ronald Ketjijere is amongst the few new faces while Wesbank Tigers top marksman Tangeni Shipahu and discarded goal poacher Jerome “the Crocodile” Louis both make a welcome return to the Warriors nest. • The squad reads as follows: Virgill Vries, Attiel Mbaha, Steven Goagab, Ralph Ellinger, Gottlieb Nakuta, George Hummel, Ninja Karongee, Richard Gariseb, Nelson Geingob, Rudi Louw, Tiofilus Kambungu, Ronald Ketjijere, Eslin Kamuhanga, Heinrich Isaacks, Eusebio Fredericks, Jerome Louis, Tangeni Shipahu and Edward Asino. Officials: Petrus Victor (Head of Delegation), Tom Saintfiet (Head Coach), Brian Isaacs (Assistant Coach), Ronnie Kanalelo (Assistant Coach), Lutz Pfannenstiel (Goalkeeper Coach), Gerson Kandjii (Medic) and Tim Isaacs (Team Manager).
