SWAKOPMUND – Old Mutual Namibia recently handed over two laptops valued at N$10 000 to the Mine Workers Union of Namibia (MUN) and the Namibia Food and Allied Workers Union (Nafau) in Swakopmund.
MUN and Nafau asked for sponsorship from Old Mutual some time last year, citing the need for technology to assist the workers in the field. In response, Old Mutual’s Lionel Kannemeyer handed over the two laptops to the unions. At the handover ceremony, Kannemeyer said MUN and Nafau are sister unions that have worked long and hard to improve the working and living standards of workers in Namibia, adding that the two laptops are crucial in ensuring effective communication between workers and management. Unions such as MUN and Nafau, Kannemeyer said, provide an open platform for communication and above all play a fundamental role in ensuring a safe and healthy working environment. Equally, trade unions play a fundamental role in reducing the number of disputes through effective bargaining and negotiation. “I would like to commend the MUN and Nafau for your presence and good work in Namibia over the past 24 years. “At Old Mutual, we are committed to investing in the community we operate. We are also committed to the people in Namibia and recognise that the function you perform in society is not easy. “Our handover of two laptops therefore demonstrates our commitment to assist where we can to enhance the efficiency of organisations such as MUN and Nafau,” he added. In addition, he acknowledged the union’s growing membership which translates into a need for more support from the corporate world. On behalf of Nafau, western region coordinator Kleofas Ngwena welcomed the gesture and expressed gratitude for the assistance. He added that Old Mutual was a social partner. Back to Top |
