WALVIS BAY â€" The Swapo Party Youth League is seeking the recall of Namibia's Ambassador to the United Nations (UN), Dr Kaire Mbuende, because he is not one of them, says the Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP)'s Youth League Deputy Secretary, Sam Hamunyela.
Hamunyela was reacting to the Swapo Party Youth League (SPYL) and National Union of Namibian Workers (NUNW) who have asked for the recall of Mbuende for apparently failing the party following neck-to-neck results of voting by Namibians living in New York. Addressing an RDP rally on Sunday, Hamunyela commented that Mbuende never took part in "stealing N$30 million of Avid-Social Security, N$100 million of ODC, N$120 million of Teko, etc. He never obtained a commercial farm under the pretext of being a poor communal farmer while he is a minister, or failed to pay his municipal bills or received a bribe of a Chinese scholarship while he can afford to pay. No. He allowed elections at the embassy in New York to be genuine, free, fair and credible." Hamunyela added that by demanding the recall of Mbuende, the SPYL and the NUNW confirmed the suspicion that President Hifikepunye Pohamba is not his own-leader. "Fellow Namibians, if a president cannot be trusted in making decisions by the Swapo Party, why should you vote for him?" he asked. He added that he was disturbed to see the youth fleeing the country to the United Kingdom (UK) to go and work on farms and factories because of poverty and unemployment. He says some of them have been staying there for more than 10 years and do not want to return home because they see no future in Namibia. Some cannot even afford an air ticket to fly back. Hamunyela promised that once RDP is voted into power, they would bring them home. The RDP further dismissed claims that its members are joining the Swapo Party. "Everyday, hundreds of people are joining RDP. We have people joining RDP from Swapo, not from RDP to Swapo," said Hamunyela. RDP President Hidipo Hamutenya refuted claims that his party is a "Kwanyama" party saying it is inclusive of every Namibian. "We will shame them when we choose our Parliament list, it will be of different tribes," said Hamutenya. "Today, I want to tell you that there is someone more intelligent than the current government, politician, political party, any president and that someone is you, the voter. All you need to do to demonstrate your intelligence is a pen to change government this week," he added. He also called on his supporters to vote RDP to end what he called decay in the education system, unemployment and a collapsing health system. "This week Swapo is worried about losing power. I am instead worried about unemployment, poverty, lack of health facilities, education that can bring a brighter future for the youth, that's my worry," said Hamutenya. He noted that he is encouraged to realise his dream for the country that of seeing a crowd at the rally that want change. "This is my message of hope to you in Walvis Bay. I want you to rise up and make change. We ask you to beat the fear you had about RDP â€" that it would bring about war. We are not advocating war, our mission is to upgrade this country," he added. "We can't afford five more years of corruption. We want change. Myself and thousands many courageous Namibians changed by leaving that corrupt party in order to help Namibians achieve the dreams of our fallen heroes and heroines who died freeing this land. I am sure that many are turning in their graves now because this is not what they fought for. I want to restore their wishes and dreams of free thinking, dreams of employment, better housing, good education system, zero corruption and better human development," he said. Three SADC observers were spotted at the meeting. Back to Top |
