WINDHOEK – A strong 12-member delegation comprising of school principals from several schools in Namibia left for Germany last week.
The touring entourage is expected to mingle with their counterparts in an effort to familiarize themselves with the situation in that country. The initial idea to dispatch the tutors was born out of a longstanding bilateral agreement between the Ministry of Youth, National Service, Sport and Culture and the Westphalia Football Association dating back to 2004. Westphalia undertook to assist Namibia with coaching courses in football and resolved to kick-start the programme with schoolteachers, since they were responsible for children at school level with the ultimate aim of encouraging teachers to assist with the inclusion and implementation of the much trumpeted Physical Education (PE) curriculum at all schools. The very first coaching course started in 2004 in towns such as Oshakati, Rundu and Windhoek with about 100 teachers in attendance. The final coaching course is scheduled for Swakopmund on the 30th of this month where 25 teachers are to obtain an A Level Coaching License from the Namibian Football Association (NFA). German expert Detlev Brueggemann will arrive in Namibia on Sunday to take the participants through the ropes. He is to be assisted by the NFA’s technical director, Klaus Staerke, during the two-week workshop. Westphalia, a region in the Federal Republic of Germany proposed to have the project expanded to other areas than football – hence the decision to link the schools where the current coaches hail from with their German counterparts. The schools principals are: Laban Shidute (Tobias Hainyeko Primary School), Maria Lukas (Okahandja Secondary School), Paul Damaseb (Eden Primary School), A Williams (Suiderlig Secondary School), Udo Behnke (Donatus School), Charles Ngozu (Okakarara Secondary School), Jonathan Tjakuva (Okamatapati Combined School), M Oppermann (Khorab Junior Secondary School), Max Johnson (St Francis Primary School), John van Wyk (De Duine Secondary School), Willy Hindjou (Fredrich Awaseb Secondary School) and Joas Hamauka (Orwetoveni Primary School).
