WINDHOEK - The Namibia Rugby Fifteen, the Welwitschias, as the team is affectionately known amongst its followers is ready to set new heights for rugby in Portugal. The Namibians take on Portugal at the University Stadium in Lisbon tomorrow and has been going through rigorous preparatory training sessions since their arrival in Lisbon on Tuesday earlier this week. Whilst announcing his starting lineup for tomorrow’s test, coach John Williams reserved some words of praise for the Portugal rugby authorities for their hospitality. ‘These are by far the best facilities and treatment we have ever received on a foreign mission,” said Williams. “The fact that all the facilities, meals and the training conditions are in such a great state allow us to focus on what matters the most – winning our matches.” he continued The team has had various training sessions since their arrival, taking full advantage of the opportunity to prepare for their titanic IRB World Cup qualifier against Tunisia. “We have been informed that our hosts are indeed very well prepared for tomorrow’s clash,” added NRU CEO Sakkie Mouton. ‘That is encouraging news, it means we will get to prepare for Tunisia with a formidable challenger.” Namibia is one of three countries that will be playing against Portugal in coming weeks with both Argentina A and Tonga visiting the shores of Portugal over the next month as part of the SuperBock Portugal ‘Tri-Nations’ tour.
