Honorary professorship conferred on Kasingo

WINDHOEK - Jilin University in China (JLU) on September 07 conferred an honorary professorship on Loide Kasingo, a Swapo legislator and the Deputy Speaker of the 72-member National Assembly.

Professor Chen Dewen of JLU delivered the honorary professorship certificate to Kasingo and praised her for the achievements and contributions made to the National Assembly and in other fields in humanities.

According to information forwarded to the media, Kasingo expressed her gratitude to JLU for the conferment and accepted the professorship not only on her behalf but also on behalf of all Namibians, including fellow MPs.

Kasingo undertook to assist with the promotion of cooperation between JLU and universities in Namibia in terms of transfer of skills and students and lecturers exchange programmes.

JLU is a leading university under the direct jurisdiction o the Ministry of Education of China.

It offers a variety of degree programmes and Kasingo visited parts of the university accompanied by its Vice President Professor Chen Gang.

Kasingo holds a Bachelor of Law from the University of the North, South Africa, and also has diplomas in Marketing Management and Training Methodology for trade union instructors.

She rose to prominence as a key figure in the late 1980s as part of the National Union of Namibian Workers (NUNW).

She played a major role in reviving the NUNW in the country.

Currently Kasingo is the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, a member of the Swapo party Central Committee, member of Swapo Party Women's Council (SPWC) as well as an associate member of the Central Committee of the NUNW.
