OMHEDI - SEPIA Investment cc at Oshikango which is owned by David Nghipunduka has donated N$10 000 to Namibia's newly crowned WBA lightweight champion, Paulus "The Hitman" Moses. The donation was handed over on Saturday afternoon at Omhedi village in the Ohangwena Region.
The Hitman visited the Queen of Uukwanyama, Martha Mwadinomho Kristian Nelumbu at her Royal House at Omhedi on Saturday to show her the new title that he won in Yokohama near Tokyo, Japan, on January 3, this year. Nghipunduka presented the cheque at a special function at the Uukwanyama Royal House over the weekend. Before handing the donation over, Nghipunduka commended The Hitman: "It takes discipline, hard work and commitment to succeed in life. You have made a good start to bring Namibia on the world map and now, the whole world is looking where Namibia is. "It is our wish that when you defend this title, it should happen here in Namibia which will bring goodwill to the entire country." He said people should be aware that the victory is for all Namibians. Welcoming The Hitman and his delegation to the Uukwanyama Royal House, the Uukwanyama senior headman George Nalulu thanked The Hitman on behalf of the Uukwanyama Traditional Authority for bringing victory to Namibia and Africa in general. "We were so proud when we heard that you won the world title and brought it to your homeland, Namibia. We want our young people to take part in various sports," Nalulu said. Introducing The Hitman to the Queen, Deputy Minister Pohamba Shifeta said, "Meekulu, we brought you this talented young man who brought victory to Africa as a continent and to Namibia as his motherland." He applauded The Hitman for courage that saw him defeat his opponent, Yusuke Kobori, to win the WBA lightweight title in Yokohama, Japan. "It's also very important to mention that The Hitman's victory can be partly attributed to the Government's well-defined development boxing programme, under the leadership of Ambrosius Kandjii," said Shifeta. "The Hitman was discovered through this particular programme and I must also congratulate Nestor Tobias for all the hard work he has put in to polish this raw diamond and turn him into a world champion. I would also like to recognise the effort of the boxing authorities that have seen Namibia dominate junior boxing in the Zone Six region during international tournaments over the last three years." He said Namibia came number two after South Africa in the Zone Six. "Millions of people who are looking for this title - they will only find it in Africa and in Namibia to be precise. Hitman is the only boxer on the entire African continent holding a world title under the WBA banner in any division and I will make sure that he defends his title in his motherland Namibia, so that he can have more supporters unlike what happened in Japan, when he fought and brought this title to Namibia. There were only seven supporters including myself," Shifeta said. Queen Mwadinomho, alongside a few senior headmen, treated The Hitman and his coach, his family and other members of his delegation, including Shifeta, to lunch. The clearly delighted Mwadinomho could not hide her joy. She held Hitman by his hand and thanked him for his hard work and achievement. "Had it not been for the Government's well defined development programme, my trainer, my sponsor (NamPower), Telecom Namibia, and other businessmen who supported me, I would not be where I am now," The Hitman who is also a warrant-officer in the Namibian Police, told the gathering at Omhedi.
