WINDHOEK - Cholera has broken out in the Kunene Region with the death toll already standing at three, the Ministry of Health and Social Services said yesterday.
The ministry confirmed that 29 suspected cases have been reported with two confirmed as vibrio cholerae. The ministry said the majority of the cases were reported in the Okangwati area within the Epupa constituency. "From December 10 to date, only seven acute diarrhoea cases were reported with one from Okangwati Health Centre," the ministry said in a statement. The ministry's findings in investigations undertaken reveal poor sanitation and a lack of safe drinking water as the causal factor. "There is no link between cholera cases reported in Zambia, Zimbabwe and Angola," the ministry said. Back to Top |
