WINDHOEK – In what can be described as a bid to dismantle Namibian cup and league double champions African Stars from the pedestal, Katutura rivals Black Africa have beefed up their playing personnel. The Gemengde-based outfit officially unveiled their new recruits in the shape of much-travelled, pocket-sized, free-scoring midfielder Rudi Louw and Civics’ wayward skilful midfield-cum-striker, Bradley ‘Asprilla’ Wermann, at a special function in Windhoek yesterday. Louw, formerly with reigning Namibian champions Stars, brings a lot of expertise and stability to the youthful Africa outfit, which finished 3rd in the MTC Premiership last season. The outspoken Louw says his shock move to his childhood club was not motivated by money and is merely a gesture towards his parents who are known to be Africa’s diehards. Rudi’s dad, Carpio Kauendji, was a formidable midfielder with the team, while his mother Ingrid used to strut her stuff as an accurate shooter with Aunt Ricky’s Babes during the club’s dominance on the domestic netball scene. His uncle Stanley used to pull the strings in the star-studded Africa engine-room, while his late grandfather, Albert ‘Boetie’ Louw, counts among the finest footballers to have ever graced the shores of domestic football in years gone by. The 26-year-old former FC AK midfielder says he still harbours ambitions to play abroad, but added he is now a Black Africa player and will concentrate on winning with the team he supported as a boy. After three seasons with the Civilians, the rejuvenated Wermann believes it’s time to move on and says Black Africa would offer him the ideal platform to unleash his full potential with his eyes fixed on a place in the Brave Warriors line-up. The arrival of the pair is likely to give coach Ricardo Manntetti some selection headaches. The youthful mentor hinted that he would offload four fringe players who are deemed surplus to requirements, though he was cagey about the identity of the potential sacrificial lambs. Back to Top |
