OSHAKATI – The police in the north arrested a woman in her 50s for allegedly burning and slashing two boys’ private parts.
According to the woman’s neighbour, the boys had their private parts cut with a knife. They were also burned with firewood on the anus. The woman, from Oshali village in Endola Constituency of Ohangwena Region, allegedly tortured the two young boys after it was reported to her that they were caught in an act of sodomy. The boys were allegedly caught by the accused’s sister who later informed the accused about the alleged sodomy. According to the source, one of the boys is the accused’s son, while the other boy is a neighbour. When the accused learned about the alleged sodomy, she allegedly informed other family members in the house to help her catch the boys because she wanted to “teach” the two a lesson. “When other family members refused, she decided to do everything on her own,” said the source. She allegedly cut each child’s tip of the penis and burned the wounds. She allegedly further inserted a piece of burning firewood in each of the boys’ anus. Police in Oshakati confirmed the case. Inspector Karen Shiimi of the Women and Child Protection unit in Oshakati said the woman was arrested at Oshakati Intermediate Hospital after police spotted the two boys aged, seven and eight, being treated for burns on their buttocks. Shiimi said the mother of the other child brought the children to the hospital and was questioned by police. She confirmed that the accused was responsible for the injuries sustained by the boys. She (neighbour) then laid charges with the Police Woman and Child Protection Unit at Oshakati Intermediate Hospital. The accused handed herself over to the police a day after the case was opened. She appeared in Oshakati Magistrate Court, but the complainant withdrew the case at the court. “We don’t really know why she withdrew the case, all we know is that the case was withdrawn at the court,” said Shiimi.
