WINDHOEK - The National Theatre of Namibia (NTN) and the Franco Namibia Cultural Centre (FNCC) are bringing an exciting concert to Windhoek when top artists, Bholoja, from Swaziland, and Kareyce, from Cameroon, will share the stage on Wednesday, March 24 at 20h00.
Bholoja, an exceptional talent who will visit Namibia as part of a 16-country tour through Africa, has just completed a seven-track debut album in Paris. He is described as a very gifted and celebrated young musician who, with his multi-coloured voice and his native lyrical songs has won respect and expanded his following across national borders. Bholoja is Swaziland's rising symbol of song, art and culture. His greatest inspiration is Swazi tradition and way of life and his songwriting focuses on the social and economic issues that govern people's daily lives and therefore his music seeks to ensure that a essential part of his country's heritage does not fall victim to historical neglect. Bholoja is a mouthpiece of the poor, orphaned, Aids victims and underprivileged, with a message of hope. His brand of music, known as Swazi Soul, is fast-gaining popularity in Swaziland and in southern Africa and fits well into many genres ranging from African Pop to Traditional African. His lyrics reflect an infectious sense of humour and optimism that prevail through all his music, which appeals to young and old alike. A young Cameroonian singer, Kareyce, will share the stage with Bholoja. Billed as the new star of Afro Folk, Kareyce will perform an acoustic set. She rose to prominence in her home country when she was adjudged the winner in the finals of the RFI's "Découvertes" award in the Togolese capital, Lomé. In the 6th "Les Jeux de la Francophonie" contest organised in the Lebanese capital last year, she won the silver medal in Beirut's prestigious "chanson" contest. Kareyce says she has been influenced in her music by the likes of Miriam Makeba, B.B. King, Ella Fitzgerald, Erykah Badu, Ismael Lo and Cesaria Evora. After embarking on a solo career, she recorded her first album titled 'Mulato,' which means someone of mixed origins. Kareyce says: I'm a Bamileke, but I was born and grew up with the Beti. What I wanted to do on my own album was express how incredibly rich life becomes when you can draw on both cultures at once!" Admission to the show is N$50 in advance and N$60 at the door.
